Figure 1
As long as you are good at observing, most of the photos with defective photos have breakthroughs that can be repaired. As shown in Figure 1, the background is relatively poor, but the cooperation between the subject and the pigeon is well captured. The break in the background is the steps and railing at the back, which provides a great blocking prop. Pay attention to the three white lines drawn on the photo. This is the imaginary effect of extending the railing. After some observation, I decided to lengthen the railing and replace the background.
Main techniques: the use of Photoshop's "Line Selection Tool" combined with the "Adjustment Tool" and the special application of the "Extraction Selection Tool".

Tips in splicing
We first need to lengthen the steps and railings to connect them more naturally to the background. In Figure 1, we can see that the extension of this step is a repair with a perspective effect. The vanishing point filter in Photoshop CS2 can also be repaired, but the repair effect is different from that of manual repair. You can also refer to Vanishing Point. How to use the point tool, this example talks about the manual repair method.
1. First use the straight line selection tool to select the steps and railings. When selecting, consider the parts we need for the next extension, as shown in Figure 2. After selecting, press "Ctrl+C" and "Ctrl+V" on the keyboard to create a new layer for the selected part.

2. Next we need to repair the copied layer. When repairing steps, you may first think of using the stamp tool. In fact, for this picture, it is difficult to repair with the stamp tool. We need to ensure that the lines of the steps are in a straight line. The simplest way is to use the straight line selection tool, select a part and then cover it, and so on.
Tips: Pay attention to maintaining integrity when selecting, select section by section as shown in Figure 3, then copy and paste one layer, move forward, press "Ctrl+T" to bring up the size adjustment tool, and adjust the appropriate position. Be careful to keep the outline lines in a straight line.

3. Duplicate the repaired steps into two layers in the layer panel, gradually connect them along the perspective direction, and adjust the size and perspective effect. If the connecting parts are obvious, you can overlap a part, and then use an eraser to erase the connecting position of the previous layer, so as to maintain a natural transition, as shown in Figure 4.

Tips: After pressing "Ctrl+T" to bring up the adjustment tool, hold down the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard with your left hand and use the mouse to click on the nodes at the four corners of the adjustment handle to adjust the perspective effect.
Adjust the layer position to display the subject
The railing is done. Now you can turn off the display of several copied layers in the layers panel and return to the character layer. Now we need to select the main character and pigeon, and then adjust the layer position to make the main body appear.
1. Checking characters is a technical job. It is not difficult, but it requires patience. Sometimes it takes trial and error. You can't use the selection tool in the toolbox, which will give a silhouette effect. Use the "Extract" filter in the filter toolbox. First, carefully select the edges of the character, especially the hair, and then fill it with the Extract panel. Fill in the tool, then click "OK" to end the selection, as shown in Figure 5.
Figure 6
2. After using the extraction tool, there may be residual edges on the edges. Now you can use the straight line selection tool in the tool box to carefully clean up the edges, as shown in Figure 6.
Figure 7
3. Finally, copy the character layer to one layer and move it to the top layer in the layers panel. Now you can display several hidden layers, then check the details and handle them carefully, as shown in Figure 7 .
Figure 8
Once the previous work is done, adding the background will be simple. Drag the background image directly into our processed photo and drag it to the lowest layer in the Layers panel. The repair methods for other defective parts are the same and will not be introduced one by one here. The final effect is shown in Figure 8.

Processing this photo may seem very difficult, but in fact, almost no complicated techniques are used. Perhaps we have used every tool before, but this time we need to combine them reasonably and use several methods to stitch the photos together. . This method only repairs the shortcomings in the photo without doing any processing on the subject. Instead, it allows the picture to maintain its original sense of reality. With a few simple techniques, we can make the digital photos we take have a lower waste rate.
