This tutorial introduces in great detail how to retouch and color a character's hair. Retouching mainly involves using the history brush to apply. Before applying, first brighten the character as a whole in the history window and then apply. If you are not familiar with historical brushes, you can directly copy one more layer, brighten the color first, then add a layer mask to fill it with black, and use a white brush to paint the areas that need to be brightened. Dyeing mainly involves selecting a rough selection of hair, and then you can adjust the color at will.
final effect
Step 1: Import a photo that needs to be modified into Photoshop, as shown in Figure 1. We can see in the picture that although the character's hair is darker, the gloss is still not enough.
<Figure 1> Step 2: Click the "Image→Adjustment→Curve" tool in the menu bar to open the "Curve" dialog box. In it, we adjust the curve to change the brightness and gloss of the character's hair until we are satisfied, and then click the "OK" button to return, as shown in Figure 2.
<Figure 2> Step 3: Next, select "Window → History Record" in the menu bar to open the history record window. We can see that there are only two operations in the history window: "Open" and "Levels". Use the mouse to click "Open" the record, and we can see that the photos in the workspace have returned to their original state. Then click the box in front of the color scale record with the mouse, and the history record brush icon will appear. , this sets up the source of the history brush, and also shows that the image just brightened through the color level adjustment can be drawn, as shown in Figure 3.
<Picture 3> Step 4: Perform oil baking operation. Click the "History Brush" tool in the toolbox, set the brush style in the property toolbar above it, select a soft-angled brush of appropriate size, and set its "Opacity", and then add it to the photo Apply to the character's hair. At this time, you will find that as you continue to drag the brush, the hair of the person in the photo regains its luster. This is because the history brush can record the operation of adjusting the hair gloss in step 2, so that we can use it to redraw the original adjusted hair gloss.
<Picture 4> The second step: dye your hair to make you look more unique in the photos!
After baking, we started the hair dyeing process. There are many techniques for hair dyeing using Photoshop. Today I will reveal to you two techniques that are simple to operate but have very good results.
Step 1: Extract the hair part of the person in the photo. In the Layers Panel, drag the "Background" layer to the "Create New Layer" button at the bottom of the Layers Panel to create a new layer - the "Background Copy" layer. Then click the "Filter → Extract" command in the menu bar to open the Extract Filter dialog box. Select the "Zoom" tool in the toolbar and drag a rectangular area around the hair area to enlarge this part.
Step 2: Select the "Edge Highlighter" tool in the toolbar, adjust the size of the brush on the right side of the dialog box, and select the "Smart Highlight Display" radio button. Then drag the mouse along the edge of the hair. If the character's hair cannot be displayed on one screen, you can use the "Grappler" tool to drag the photo up and down in the window. In addition, the fine ends of the hair can be painted by reducing the size of the brush.
Step 3: After creating a closed area along the hair to be selected, use the "Fill" tool in the toolbar to fill the closed area, as shown in Figure 5. Now we can click the "Preview" button on the right side of the dialog box to preview the effect of the selected hair. Then click the "OK" button to select the hair and place it in the "Background Copy" layer.
<Figure 5> Method 1 Hue/Saturation method: Select the "Image→Adjustment→Hue/Saturation" command in the menu bar to open the "Hue/Saturation" dialog box. Check the "Coloring" radio button in the lower right corner of the dialog box, and then drag the "Hue" and "Saturation" sliders to see the character's hair color change. Once you achieve the effect you want, click Click the "OK" button to complete the operation of changing the character's hair color, as shown in Figure 6.
<Figure 6> Method 2 Fill layer method: Click the "Layer → New Fill Layer → Solid Color" command in the menu bar, and in the pop-up "New Layer" dialog box, set the mode to "Color". Then click the "OK" button, and the "Color Picker" dialog box will pop up. Select a beautiful color from it, and you can observe the change in the character's hair color. Then click the "OK" button to complete the character. The operation of changing hair color is shown in Figure 7.
<Figure 7> After adjusting using the above two methods, press Ctrl+D to cancel the selection. At this time, we can see that the character's hair has changed to a new color. If you feel that some detailed areas of the character's hair still need to be modified, such as the color filling of the hair part is messy, etc., you can use the "Brush" tool, select a good color, and then carefully paint on the inappropriate color areas in the hair details. Apply for ultimate perfection. The final effect is shown in Figure 8.
