Let’s take a look at the final effect:
Next we start making
1. First, create a new file in PS with a size of 500×500 pixels. This size is usually more suitable for creating buttons. Next fill your background layer with the color #e0e0e0.
2. Now create a new layer and add any shape you like. Here I will use the shape in the custom shape tool as an example. For the shape color I used #be1947 and moved this layer to the top.
3. Next, use the Perspective Transform Tool (Edit-Transform-Perspective) to stretch the shape a little to the right. Then, use the Transform Tool (Edit-Free Transform) to rotate the shape to the left about 15 degrees.
4. Now, let’s create the three-dimensional effect of the shape. First select the shape layer and hold down the SHIFT and ALT keys, then use your right hand to press the down and right arrow keys at the same time, and the layer will be automatically copied. Repeat the above steps again and stop when a certain thickness is reached. Then merge all but the top layers. Now CTRL-click on the top layer to load its selection and fill it with the #a00330 color code. And double-click this layer to rename it "bottom".
5. Next, copy the top layer and move the duplicate layer between the 3D shape layer and the top layer, then press the down and right arrow keys twice at the same time. After moving, double-click this layer to add the gradient overlay layer style as shown below:
6. Create a new layer on the topmost layer and name it “top highlights”. Then hold CTRL and click to load the selection of the upper shape layer. Using the Brush Tool, set a softer brush with a size of about 200 pixels. Add highlights to "top highlights" as shown below:
7. Follow the same steps as above, create a new layer on the 3D shape layer, and use a brush to create highlights on the 3D shape layer. Then set the opacity of the two created highlight layers to between 60-70, as shown in the picture:
8. Continue to create a new layer on top and name it "shine". Then use the Elliptical Marquee Tool to create an elliptical selection and fill it with white as shown below:
9. Select the original shape layer, press CTRL and click on this layer to load its selection area and then execute Select-Modify-Shrink and set the value to 3 pixels. Then execute the select-inverse-select-delete command, the result is as follows:
10. Now with the "shine" layer still selected, use the eraser tool to set the eraser brush strokes softer. Erase out some parts of the edge of the "shine" layer as shown below:
11. Double-click the "shine" layer to set the layer style, as shown below:
12. Add the last step below, change the color of the original shape layer and the 3D layer, double-click the above 2 layers respectively to add the gradient overlay layer style.
Finally done! You can use this method on many different shapes of objects to create beautiful lights and effects on them.
