This tutorial introduces how to make green grass characters. The tutorial is divided into three parts: background, text and detail decoration. The production of the text part is more complicated. You can first find the grass base material, etc., and then add text. You need to outline the grass leaves beyond the text so that the text will be natural enough. The tutorial is just a reminder of other similar texts waiting for you to discover.
final effect
1. Background part
1. This picture is roughly composed of 3 parts. Background, text, and some final finishing touches. We now start with the background. First, create a new document in PS and make it as large as possible. (Here I use 1920*1200) Create a new layer. We use the radial gradient in the gradient tool to drag the gradient as shown in the picture below. Use #adbf41 and #328a26 as the gradient colors.
2. Let’s continue to make textures, open a paper-like material image and do decolorization (Image-Adjustment-Decolorization). Here I have already processed the color and you can download it directly.
3. Copy and paste the paper material into the current new document and place it at the top level. Then set the layer blending mode to Overlay and the layer opacity to 70%, so you get a nice green background, as shown below:
4. The background doesn’t look perfect now, so let’s make a copy of the background layer. Use the Free Transform tool to flip it 180 degrees and set the layer opacity of the duplicate layer to 20%. The texture still looks a bit light now. In order to reveal more details of the texture, I copied the texture layer a few more times. As shown below:
5. Copy the original gradient background layer and place it on top, then set its layer transparency to 40%. 6. In order to highlight the main effect of the text that will be edited later, we use the burn tool to deepen and darken the edges on this duplicate layer. The result is shown below:
2. Text
OK, the production of the background is basically completed. Now let’s move on to the production of the text part.
7. Next we create text. First, open the material picture we need to create text. Here I found a nice picture of grass. As shown below:
8. Enter the text below. Here I enter the text "EARTH". I use 924BT as the font. If you don't have this font, you can use bold or some other thicker font instead. Then set the blending mode of the text layer to Overlay and the opacity to 50%. The result is as follows:
9. The next step can be said to be a more tedious step. We will use the pen tool to make irregular paths around the edges of the text. It is a bit boring but I hope you can persevere. As shown below:
10. In order to facilitate adjustment, when you complete a letter path in the text, please double-click one of the working paths to save it as a separate path, as shown in the following figure:
11. Press CTRL+ENTER to convert the completed path into a selection and return to the grass layer and press CTRL+J to copy it. Let's first look at the effect of the first completed letter "E" placed in the background. Obviously this doesn't look very satisfactory. Its three-dimensional effect is not strong enough. As shown below:
12. Double-click the "E" letter layer and add a layer style to set the Bevel, Emboss and Glossy layer styles, as shown below:
The result is as follows:
13. Make a copy of the text layer, then clear the layer style of the copied layer and add the following layer styles: (respectively, drop shadow and bevel and relief) as shown below:
14. Press CTRL+click on the layer to load its selection, then create a new layer filled with black. While maintaining the selection, use the right arrow key to move about 15 seconds. Each time you click and move to the right, the selection area will be filled with black. As shown below:
15. Execute Filter-Blur-Motion Blur, set the angle of our text shadow to 45 degrees, and the distance to about 30 degrees. Then set the layer opacity to 50%. The result is shown below:
16. Next, place the shadow of the text in the correct position according to the angle of the light source, as shown in the figure below:
17. Follow the above steps with other words, as shown below:
18.Finally enter some text you like
3. The processing of detailed text is over. Now we enter the processing of the final details.
19. In order to make the text closer to our "EARTH" theme, close to nature and enhance people's concept of green environmental protection. Let's add 1 or 2 small insects. Here I use butterflies and jacket bugs for decoration. As shown below:
20. Remove the background of the above two material pictures and place them at the appropriate position in the current new document and adjust the size with the free transform tool. The final effect is as follows:
