Link building is the basic work of most SEO strategies, but few people use the tools to do this work in a systematic and efficient manner. Even though many people have the right tools, they still struggle to keep up the effort and understand the results. Now, let’s look at how you can be fully prepared for your link building efforts by creating a comprehensive link building “toolkit” that will be used throughout your entire project.
A "toolkit" that includes contact lists, work sheets, and templates is an organized collection of relevant information files that are necessary for link building work. My link building toolkit is mainly spreadsheet files with multiple tags and categories. It is convenient for me to enter necessary data throughout the work process. As for spreadsheets, Excel is certainly the most recommended.
Because link building is an ongoing process, tables make what can sometimes be a labor-intensive task simpler and easier to manage. Also, if you're not the one doing the work directly, the form will make it easier to hand over everything that needs to be filled out to the person who will be implementing the policy.
Be careful to consider it on a case-by-case basis depending on your strategy, but most of what I'm going to mention applies.
Here are nine areas to consider in your link building worksheet:
1. Target keyword list: Conduct research to determine which keywords you need to target with your link building efforts. These keywords will be used in the anchor text that you provide to your partners or that you publish on third-party websites/directories. Your target keyword list should include a bunch of keywords you expect to rank for (generally 3-5 is ideal).
2. List of potential link partners: Conduct research to identify and select potential link partners. Leverage your existing business network, as well as some manual searches through search engines to identify partners. Create a worksheet to record the results of the survey and all relevant information, including:
Site name
Site URL
Topic scope
PR value
Desired page to link to
Website administrator name and contact information
3. List of target directories: Because many website directories are often used by search engines to build their indexes, these directories are ideal places for SEO and link building. As you do your research on potential link partners, also build a list of directories to which you would like to submit your sites. You will need to create a worksheet to record the survey results and all relevant information, including:
directory name
Site URL
Topic scope
Contact information
Submission/Pricing Information
4. List of related blogs and forums: Publishing content on blogs and forums related to your industry is a common way to increase external links and increase website traffic. When doing link partner research, you should also record online discussions that are relevant to your site, forums and blogs where you can help add valuable content. Record the following during the survey:
Blog/Forum Name
Site URL
Topic scope
The most relevant special sections/forums
Contact information
5. List of article publishing sites: Online PR websites allow you to create and publish online news/articles quickly and easily, and also give you the opportunity to get more links. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a list of such websites with good reputation.
6. Link request email template: Link requests are generally completed through email. You will need to write a link request email template in advance so that you can call it anytime when you send an email to the webmaster of your partner list. It is best to include the following information:
greeting
Praise for his website and how you found it
Briefly describe your site and its value
request link
Anchor text to use for the desired link
A friendly byline (your full name and job title, plus an email address from the same domain as the site you're requesting a link to, if possible)
7. Link Request Tracking Form: You need to track which sites you sent link requests to and whether they got the link. The link request tracking form should include:
The URL of the linked page
Required landing page
requested date
Contact email address/URL (if online form)
Whether the link has the required anchor text (yes/no)
Date the link was published
Follow up
8. Paid Links Worksheet: Track financial spend on paid links or directories. include:
Name and URL of the linked site
Required landing page
start date
end time
Payment amount
Order number
Invoice number
Updated URL or contact information
9. Link building performance tracking form: Because you need to spend a lot of time and effort building external links, tracking their performance is an absolute must. You should create a spreadsheet to track progress. Use a simple table to list the key performance indicators (KPIs) and fill in the data by time (one month, two months, three months...). You can update the table as often as you do link building, but monthly updates are recommended. The following indicators need to be included in the table:
keyword ranking
Number of external links
organic search traffic
Natural search conversion
I believe you can make your link building work more orderly by using the above table, and it will make it easier for you to review your experience and identify problems.
It may seem like a bit of an organization obsession, but please believe that only by having a plan and preparing orderly work can you achieve better success. I believe many people are well aware of the effectiveness and quality of selling link exchange information in random situations (such as QQ groups).
