Clear goals
In general, computers pre-installed with Win7 Home Edition have relatively low configurations, especially some laptops and netbooks, and users’ computer knowledge and technical level are also limited. Therefore, this article focuses on the two most representative goals in the daily use of computers. Optimization mainly includes the following two points.
1. Safer. The most representative one is to lock the IE homepage key value to prevent malicious tampering.
2. More efficient. Turn off some useless functions, such as the system's built-in burning function, to save system resources.
Safety first, lock IE for safe Internet access and smooth browsing
The most common problem that users usually encounter is that their IE homepage has been tampered with, resulting in many inexplicable windows popping up after opening IE. It can be said that they are endless, and it is very troublesome. This is often caused by the IE homepage being maliciously tampered with or hijacked when the user is surfing the Internet or installing some software. Therefore, it is very necessary to lock the IE homepage.
In the Ultimate version, users can lock the homepage through "Disable changing homepage settings" in Group Policy. For the home version, the key value of IE's homepage is actually controlled by the "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain" key value. The "Start Page" value in the right window is the IE homepage. Therefore, to lock the IE homepage from being tampered with, we only need to set the current account's permissions on the above key values to "read-only".
You can also make a "regeini.ini" and place it on the D drive, then start the command prompt as an administrator, and then enter "regeini d:regeini" ("regeini.exe" is the system's own command to modify the registry permissions. ) will do.
Tip: To run as an administrator: click "Start→All Programs→Accessories", then right-click "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator" in the pop-up menu.
After completion, the user can only read but not change the above key values. The user can change the homepage in IE, but the settings will not be saved. After closing and opening IE, it will still be the original homepage, which naturally achieves the purpose of locking the homepage. .
Tip: Registry modifications generally need to restart the system to take effect. If you want to take effect immediately, you can open the task manager, terminate the "explorer.exe" process, then create a new task through the task manager, and then enter "explorer.exe" to re-run That’s it.
Tip: How to change your homepage while locked?
Expand the above key value in the registry, right-click the "Main" key value, then select "Permissions", select "Advanced" in the pop-up window, then switch to the "Owner" tab, and set the current administrator account to All (If the current account does not appear in the list, click "Other Accounts" and manually enter the name of the current account).
Click "OK" to return to the permission setting window and click "Add" to add the current administrator account to the list and set the account's read permission for the key value to "Full Control". You can change it after refreshing the registry. Start Page" key value.
In addition to locking IE, there are also some other security optimization settings that users can selectively optimize according to their own circumstances.
Disable built-in burning to save limited system resources
The default settings of some systems may not be suitable for all users. For example, if a netbook user does not have an optical drive, the system's built-in burning function will be of no use. Even if some brands of computers have optical drives, ordinary users may not use the system's built-in burning function, and they can achieve better results through third-party software, so we can turn off burning to save system resources.
Similarly, in order to facilitate everyone's operation, double-click the "noburn.reg" file in the downloaded file to import it into the registry, and the optimization is completed. Simple, right? Let’s verify it. If your computer has an optical drive, then open “Computer” now and right-click the optical drive icon. You will find that the “Burn to Disc” menu is gone because this function has been turned off!
Tip: How to restore disc burning function?
Start the Registry Editor, expand to "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer", and then delete the "Explorer" item. After restarting, the burning function can be restored.
In addition to turning off the system's built-in disc burning function, users can also turn off the system's "Send Error Report" function; if the user is not connected to a printer, they can also turn off the system print service (for more detailed system service optimization, please see "Computer News" The article "Let Win7 accelerate useless services, please list them out" in the 10th issue); if the user's computer hard disk space is limited, you can also selectively turn off the partition protected by system restore, etc.
From the above introduction, we can see that although the home version does not have Group Policy, we can also achieve the optimization function of Group Policy by using the registry editor and the settings of the system itself. Compared with previous operating systems, Win7 has been greatly improved in terms of security and ease of use. As long as the UAC function, IE protection mode and NTFS permissions provided by Win7 are combined, high security effects can be obtained. Therefore, for ordinary home users, the home version is enough, and it is not necessary to install the flagship version. And if ordinary users have more needs, as long as they have a certain amount of computer knowledge, they can completely turn the home version into a "flagship version" that suits their needs!
