1. Open a photo, as shown in Figure 01.

2. Create a new layer "Layer 1", select the "Brush Tool" in the toolbox, set the foreground color to gray and RGB to 136136136 respectively. Apply paint on the layer without precise drawing, shape and position. As shown in Figure 02, the area painted here will "grow" a beard later.
Figure 023. Execute the "Filter", "Noise" and "Add Noise" commands in the menu bar, and set the parameters in the pop-up Add Noise dialog box, as shown in Figure 03. The number depends on your needs. The larger the value, the darker the beard will grow.

4. Select the "Elliptical Marquee Tool" in the toolbox, hold down the Shift key and drag out a perfect circle selection on the character's face, as shown in Figure 04.

5. Then execute the "Filter", "Blur" and "Radial Blur" commands in the menu bar, and set the blur method to Zoom in the pop-up blur dialog box. Select the best quality, and the quantity depends on your needs. The larger the quantity value, the longer the beard will "grow", as shown in Figure 05.
Figure 056. Change the blending mode of layer 1 to "Multiply". And add a "Layer Mask" to the layer. Click to select the layer mask, then select the brush tool in the toolbox and set the brush tool size, softening, opacity, flow, etc., apply foam on the "beard" you created, and erase the unnecessary beard. Finally adjust the opacity of layer 1, the effect is shown in Figure 06.

7. Press the Ctrl+U keys, and in the pop-up "Hue/Saturation" dialog box, click Color to color the beard, as shown in Figure 07. The final result of the photo is shown in Figure 08.
