When setting keywords for SEO, we often need to analyze the competition of a specific word. For major keywords such as "sports", "news", and "literature", we can rely on our common sense to know that the competitors are all Sina. NetEase and other invincible competitors, so you should avoid setting such broad keywords. You really can't compete and it's not interesting.
So, how to judge the competition level of keywords? Here are some of my experiences:
1. Regional keyword competition is much smaller:
For example, "accounting" is an extremely broad keyword, and the top 10 keywords must be industry websites and various advertising promotions. But if you add "Jinan accounting" to the search, you will find that the strong competitors are gone, leaving only some miscellaneous results such as local accounting recruitment information. This brings you many opportunities to enter the homepage!
2. Check Baidu Index/Google Index
Baidu Index is a tool provided by Baidu for webmasters to view search term data. Click here to enter.
This tool can check the search frequency of a search term (which may differ from the actual number), but webmasters can use the method of adding keywords to compare their target keywords with broader keywords. As shown in the picture below, I want to know how big the gap is between the word "novel" and the very precise keyword "time travel novel", so as to infer the intensity of competition for the latter.
We see that the yellow line representing "time travel novel" is far away from the green line, and the search volume is one-fifth to one-quarter of the word "novel".
In addition, Baidu Index also has some very meaningful tools, such as "related search terms" that can list similar keywords to help you find new inspiration.
3. Check the number of advertisements.
Baidu's promotion will occupy the front part of the search results page, and some keywords with strong commercial value occupy almost the entire results page.
So if your website's main keywords include such commercial keywords, you need to know that this will make it more difficult for you to get to the homepage. In fact, it is difficult to achieve the homepage without a certain amount of time. And even if you get there, you still have to endure that a lot of your traffic will be diverted by paid ads. Who asked people to spend money?
4. Analyze keywords through the current status of the industry.
We know that many industries are in their infancy. If your website is also in an emerging industry, congratulations, you have the opportunity to seize the opportunity. When a thing has just started to become popular in China, or has not yet become popular, the competition for keywords at this time is very small. If you don’t believe it, you can open a blog and publish an introductory blog about naked-eye 3D technology. Just give it a try!
Okay, the above is my experience. Please correct me for any shortcomings. I hope to have time to discuss it in depth in the future!
