Recently, a client asked me:
"If there are 5 bullets in my SEO gun, how should I fire it?" This question is indeed difficult to answer. The search engine algorithm is very complex, and there are hundreds of factors that affect rankings. Perhaps the crux of the problem is also what you, the reader, are looking for.
If we have a website and want to get more traffic and higher rankings through SEO, what should we do? At least the five key and core ones.
SEOmoz has done such an experiment before. They tried to find 5 factors that positively or negatively affect rankings from many factors that affect rankings.
Based on their results, plus my personal experience, here is my ranking:
1. External links, try to get your external links from different places and different websites. The key point is not to blindly pursue quantity, but to value the quality of links. I often see some guys asking me why my ranking has not changed even though I have hundreds of thousands of external links. When I checked, 99% of the links came from the same website. Moreover, 1,000 links from different domain names are much more effective than 10,000 links from one website.
2. Your website is useful to users and search engines. For a website that is useful to users, there is no reason why search engines should not put you in the front. The starting point of the search engine itself is to collect useful information for users and provide it for users to query. So how do you know if your website is useful to users? There are several measurement indicators: ① pv (page views). A website with high pv is definitely a website that users like. If I didn’t like it, why would I see so many of your pages? ② Bounce rate. If your website’s bounce rate is higher than 60%, it is enough to prove that many users will close your website soon after coming in. I have also written about "How to Reduce Website Bounce Rate" before, you can take a look. ③Website comments. Websites with high comments represent popularity. Generally, popular forums have a high weight. A website with high popularity is naturally a website that users like. At the same time, comments are also part of the content of the web page, and they are original content and can speed up the update of the web page. These search engines like it very much.
3. Web page title, title is a very important step in SEO. Search engines will use your title to determine what content your web page probably belongs to. Moreover, the title of your web page will be displayed in search engines. Whether the title is attractive or not is enough to determine the click-through rate of users. Many users say that their rankings have improved, but there are no clicks. This is part of the reason. Of course, there is also the reason that the search volume of the keyword itself is small. – How to estimate the traffic you will get from SEO rankings
4. Valuable content, focus on providing valuable content, rather than copying what others say and excessive plagiarism. A website with many repeat customers must be a website full of valuable content. Simply put, this is user experience. Can be combined with point 2. Modern search engines are smart enough to judge whether a website is valuable to users based on the ratio of repeat visitors to new visitors.
5. Internal links. Correct internal links should be used as explanations in the content of the article, such as Baidu Encyclopedia. Add links to places that users don’t understand or need further explanation. This can not only improve PV/user experience, but also facilitate search engine indexing. Here, I think internal links are mainly about improving user experience. I often see many people linking internally for the sake of internal linking, adding links in irrelevant places, which seriously affects reading. If you must add it, at least the sentences must be smooth and coherent.
Although there are many factors that affect SEO ranking, I think these 5 points are the most important. And most of the factors are based on improving user experience.
